Dansby opens 2007 with 11 tackles and a forced fumble

Karlos pressures Seattle's Matt Hasselbeck in 2006 action.Despite holding San Francisco’s Alex Smith to only 126 yards passing and Frank Gore to 55 yards on the ground, the Cardinals were unable to get the ball to bounce their way Monday night in 20-17 loss to the 49’ers.

In their first regular season game since changing from 3-4 to a 4-3 defensive alignment, the Cardinals defense showed improvement over a season ago with big plays being made from every position. Defensive end Darnell Dockett dropped the 49’ers Smith for a sack and when San Francisco’s offensive line was able to contain the Cardinals’ defensive front, along comes Karlos and safety Adrian Wilson.

However in the end it was the same dominating Cardinals defense that was unable to hold off a game winning drive by Smith and the 49’ers. “I would like to have seen them be successful at the end but I was pleased how they played,” coach Ken Whisenhunt said. “That was one of the big questions about us in the preseason was defensively and we answered that.” For the night, Dansby and the Arizona defense held San Francisco by allowing only 194 total yards. Running back Frank Gore was only allowed 55 yards rushing on the night.

Arizona will host Seattle in a week 2 match-up on Sunday afternoon. at 4 p.m. AZ time.

Karlos Hopes to Remain a Cardinal

Karlos in 2005 action where he logged a career best 103 tacklesThe Cardinals and the agent for inside linebacker Karlos Dansby have opened negotiations for a contract extension, but talks aren't expected to progress much for at least several weeks.

The Cardinals would like to see how the preseason plays out before getting serious about re-signing Dansby. With injuries and possible late additions from the waiver wire, their roster will remain a work in progress through the first week of the regular season.

The delay is frustrating for Dansby's agent, Kirk Wood, who is pushing to reach an agreement before the regular season starts Sept. 10 in San Francisco. Dansby, Wood said, doesn't want the contract issue to loom through the season.

"We remain ready and prepared to do whatever we have to do to work with the team so he (Dansby) is there for his career," Wood said. "We don't, however, want to spend time in the season distracted with that. We're working with the team to resolve any contract issue prior to the season start. But at this point, we're waiting on them to respond." READ MORE

Despite 27-23 loss to Raiders, Cards Satisfied

Dansby records 3 tackles in limited action

Karlos blocks a Matt Hasselbeck pass in 06 action.OAKLAND, Calif. – It was the first game of the preseason, and for the Cardinals, it looked that way.

There was some good, like Kurt Warner’s 58-yard touchdown pass to Bryant Johnson and Neil Rackers’ 59-yard field goal. There was some not so good, like a slow start by the first-string offense and some bad penalties by the first-string defense.

But bumpy times were expected by coach Ken Whisenhunt. He just wanted a hard and disciplined effort. After the Cardinals’ 27-23 loss to the Raiders in front of a sparse crowd at McAfee Coliseum, Whisenhunt was mostly satisfied he got it.

"We were a little ragged offensively, and I thought we had a chance to swing momentum when we had penalities (on defense)," Whisenhunt said.  "But in the end I wasn't displeased.  I don't want to dismiss the good things we did.

"We had opportunites to make plays.  We just didn't get it done." READ MORE
