Whether they align in a 3-4 or 4-3 look, Cardinals ready to attack offenses FLAGSTAFF – Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt was explaining the nuances of the 3-4 defensive alignment compared to a 4-3 and noted that sometimes, the difference is merely where a defensive tackle lines up.
“To me, that’s why I haven’t made a big issue about (whether we play) the 3-4 or 4-3,” Whisenhunt said. The Cardinals can’t completely ignore the buzz that the 3-4 is the defense of choice. Some of their best defensive players have changed positions to incorporate the new style: Bertrand Berry and Chike Okeafor working as outside linebackers instead of defensive end; Karlos Dansby moving from outside to inside linebacker; Darnell Dockett becoming an end instead of a tackle. But with Whisenhunt choosing to keep holdover defensive coordinator Clancy Pendergast – who had been a master of multiple schemes anyway – what someone calls the Cards’ defense may just be a matter of semantics. “It isn’t really a true 3-4, but it isn’t really a true 4-3 either,” Pro Bowl safety Adrian Wilson said. “I think he married both together into a hybrid.” READ MORE |

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. -- Karlos Dansby has an age-old motivation going for him this season: money.
Arizona's big-play linebacker is in the final year of his contract, and he plans to show his worth to the Cardinals and the rest of the NFL. "The caliber of teams that we're playing this year, I'm getting the opportunity to show the world what I'm made of, just put my resume out there," Dansby said before the Cardinals practiced Tuesday. Entering his fourth season with Arizona, Dansby has been moved from outside to inside linebacker by new coach Ken Whisenhunt. Watching tapes from previous seasons, the new coach said, he noted that Dansby's best plays often came when he was moved to inside linebacker in the team's third-down nickel defense. READ MORE |

FLAGSTAFF - A year ago, the Cardinals were scheduling the dedication of the Karlos Dansby wing of the training camp doghouse.
Coach Dennis Green entered camp unhappy over Dansby's lack of participation in off-season workouts because of finger and thumb surgeries. Green's mood didn't improve when Dansby missed all of camp because of a toe condition and leg problems.
Today, under a new coaching staff and revamped defensive scheme, things are much different. Dansby has emerged from the doghouse and moved from outside linebacker to inside in a 3-4 alignment. He was a regular participant in the off-season program, adding 10 pounds and gaining strength.
"It was motivation, man, just to get back on the field and show why the Cardinals organization brought me here," Dansby said of last year. "Now I'm getting an opportunity to really show what I've got. I came in in shape. I'm taking care of my body, and I'm ready to make things happen." READ MORE |
